anyone up near inverness , im after information on the best and cheapest way to get from the airport to Creag Leath , looks so that bus into inverness then from there ,but Creag Leath is a bit out of the way for most taxi etc.

Sure I can advise, but I don't recognise 'Creag Leath' I'm afraid. Is it a BnB or a hotel, or????

OK, googled. Is it the 4x4 hire place?
(They do say on their website that they have a 'dedicated' taxi driver, which might be a good option). TBH I don't know the times of the airport bus - It's not so regular that I've ever used it, and I don't need to go into town anyway. A taxi from airpprt to town will be about £15, I'd guess that going all the way to Creag Leath/Dochgarroch would add another £10/12 to that, maybe a little more expensive if after midnight. Once you get into Inverness, there will be busses running down the Loch Ness road/A82 - either long distance routes to Fort William, or more local services, maybe to Drumnadrochit and back. I'm afraid our bus services just aren't too good. When are you travelling? There are busses, but they'd take a bit of research, and a little luck to get the times to match, and even then you might find yourselves at the bottom of a track somewhere.... If I was you, I'd probably look at the timetables just to see if anything's feasible, but wouldn't be overly optimistic. Edited to add - depending on your fligt, and how long it takes your bag to get off the carousel,you míght find the taxi rank with no cars. Booking something in advance is often a good idea - and their dedicated guy might well be the easiest. Hi,
First question first - snow or not? That's impossible to say really, last few years it has been into Feb/March before we've seen much of it, and even then it can come and go in a day. Not like the "old days" .. Now, things to see...? Quick few suggestions here - depending on how mobile you'll be and how close/far from Inverness you're looking to go. Inverness itself; On a good day I imagine the viewpoint on the top of one of the Castle towers must be quite impressive. Though I have to say I've never been and don't know its opening hours; The Museum isn't too bad - one for a rainy day; Culloden Battlefield visitor centre is a pretty good place - fairly new, with cafe etc. Nearby, though suffering a bit from the Outlander effect, are the Clava cairns; Fort George (about 8-10 miles out of town) is some seriously impressive masonry, and as far as I'm aware pretty unique in the UK; Slightly further afield, and it depends on the tide, and if the dolphins are in the mood, it can be great to see them jumping about just offshore at Chanonry point. Then you've got things like beaches in Nairn or Findhorn, forest walks and ski-ing at Aviemore, or a run around Loch Ness. Plenty really to keep yourselves occupied. If you do lean towards any particular type of thing, let me know and I'll see if I can suggest anything else. many thanks, we will be looking to get out and about to off the beaten track good view points, Forrest tracks, beaches and if poss a walk or two. |
