Is this an old advertising sign?
Hello

Saved this from being thrown at mother-in-law's

Is it an advertising sign? Looks like it could be hung up and had a bulb holder inside (or at least looks that way)

I may try and see if I can get it going, not sure how I add a bulb even?

I'm planning on a new garage build so may keep this to hang up Smile

PYE was also heavily involved in early (pre-mobile phones) telecommunications under the brand PYE Telecom, a sort of two-way radio set up.

For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

My Father-in-Law worked for Pye in Haverhill, Suffolk, then in Cambridge.

He did work in Czechoslovakia (whilst it was still eastern block) and he would drive there from his home in Haverhill.

It got swallowed up by Philips. Anyone of a certain age will remember Pye TV's, Radios and consumer electronics.

They also did a range of two way radios for business. I think these were called PMR Radios. A lot of utilities companies used them to keep in touch with their field based engineers. A bit like CB, but it had a much wider range.

Great sign! Probably worth a couple of quid in the right place, the sort of thing Drew Pritchard would go for! James

I remember PYE radios in my dads old electricity board vehicles. The older sets were blue and the coiled lead to the microphone was red and cloth covered. The newer sets were black and the microphone was a strangely angled affair with a big orange PTT button. Many happy hours spent in the old SSEB motors whether they were ser 111 109’s or Bedford TK’s.

Yes as has been said they were a big Radio producer for two way communications, bought over by Phillips. We used their radios back in ICI in the 80's!
