Weird Electrical Issue

This is just on the off chance, before I attack the wiring to see if I can find a short, I thought I would ask if anyone had experienced this.
2.4 TDCi
When I switch the heated rear window on (factory fitted) - The Brake (STOP) lights come on !
My defender does like to challenge me

2002 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Keswick Green

Check the earth at the back door. The high level brake light and heated rear window share and earth path. If that is damaged it is probably earthing back through the brake lights.

I would possibly even put money on the earth cable being broken in the rubber convoluted tube that runs to the rear door.

That's actually a feature to scare the tailgater behind you

I wish I had a pound for every time a car comes up so close that their headlights disappear from view.( I probably should not admit it but I was taught (by a Police Class 1 instructor

) to take my foot off the accelerator and quickly put it back on, to "wake" the tail gater up. It works a treat, and they normally drop back and keep their distance

Not had chance to look at the electrical gremlin yet, but I will report back when sorted.

Problem sorted

Yes, you were absolutely correct. The earth connection between the rear door and the vehicle had failed, wire replaced and all is now as it should be.
