Netherlands 2008 Defender 130 Puma 2.4 HCPU Santorini Black
Stalling motor problem.
It's been a while since i've been on here, that long i couldn't remember my login details.

Anyway, i have a problem where i hope someone has an answer to.
I own a 2008 Defender which is heavily modified into a camper.
Recently i have encountered a problem.
The car seem to stall in mid drive, just out of the blue and nothing obvious coursing it.
It stalls and then drives on again, sometimes very noticeable sometimes less.
Thee is no obvious reason or time when it does either, sometimes when it's cold, sometime when it's hot and been driving all day.
Sometimes it happens every day, sometimes it's fine for two weeks.
It also doesn't matter either if i'm driving on the motorway or on a country lane, so it doesn't seem speed related.
At first i thought it was outside temperature related, because the first time it happend it was hot outside, But other times it wasn't.

I have been to the garage and even to the dealer but neither of them could find an obvious problem.
Must say that the problem wasn't occurring when i was at the garage.
Since then i have bought a diagnostic tool so i could see during driving what was happening, if the problem would occur.
And true enough, today it finally happend, although i didn't get a fault code, what i was kind of hoping for.
What i did notice is that the HP fuel rail pressure dropt dramatically when i could notice the car stalling.
But i don't know if this is the course or the result of the problem.
The pressure dropped about half and then came back up again to normal pressure and then dropped again and so on.
The throttle percentage and EGR percentage stayed stabile during this.

I hope that is someone on here who had a similar problem or better, the solution.

Regards, Ruud

Is it just loosing power momentarily, or cutting out?
Couple suggestions in here:

Thanks for your reply.

It's losing power momentarily most of times, sometimes, only very rarely cuts out completely after a series of momentarily power losses.
Once or twice i had the problem of not starting after a rare shut down, but mostly it just starts again.

I have been reading the suggested previous posts and i don't think fuel type is the problem with me, i'm still using the same fuel brand as i was before the problem occurred. Although that means nothing maybe.

So what could be the problem is the VCV maybe?
The 2.4 ltr engines is 11 years and over 200000km old now, could that course the problem?

It could be the crank sensor switch, if these have one. My dads jeep used to do cut out while on mid run and it would take a bit to start up again. Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
