Hardtop storage system
Has anyone made their own ? I wanted to make a false floor to go across the boot area and then have a space for the spare wheel underneath and a couple of drawers nearer the door.

The price of drawer systems is eye watering plus mine lets in water a fair bit so the boot area is often wet.

Any suggestions from folk who have done this already ?

Thanks

I made up this false floor on mine a while ago, not sure if this is too basic for what you are after though

Hi, my solution was to make something similar to the Baja Boxes as seen in the US.

At the time I was competing in the British Army Navigation events and so wanted the spare off the rear door to put the weight over the rear axle and have somewhere to keep our gear and food clean and dry.

I designed the box and side supports, my brother did the fabrication then I drilled the holes to both save weight, make it look better and have the ability to tie stuff down. I have put an edging strip around the upper edge to save it from scratches and a non slip mat to stop items falling through the holes.

The tray takes two of the Really Usefull boxes side by side with another two stacked on top if required then held in place by the netting.

The tray is supported by a runner on the side supports and then held in place by a spring bolt in each corner.

At the time the spare and the tray could be removed in a couple of minutes to give the space for tip runs or bulky items.

Now I am not competing the spare is back on the door and I use two Euro boxes to keep stuff from rolling around.

I have also made a false floor to house two waffle boards. I pull these out a bit and stand on if tying timber to the back of the rollcage or I can pull the right one out further and it doubles up as a table for my gas burner for food or coffee stops.

I hope that this helps with ideas for your project.

PS the side netting is ex Wolf 110 with the lower support pole cut short and higher up an I made a wooden shelf to hold waterproofs / jumper cables ect, the sides are covered with marine ply and carpeted and so things can be screwed directly to it.

If you try the search facility there are several similar threads which I'm sure will provide further ideas. Thumbs Up James

I went for a pretty low tech approach with 12mm plywood and glued coin rubber to it (also squaring off the wheel arches with ply). Sound Killer under this.

As I had some left over from another job, I then used a sheet of OSB side to side (this also now has coin rubber attached).

This would be easy to modify to whatever works best for you.
