Hi there!
Some days ago the key ring of the Defender key has broken and now the key are separated from the FOB. My wife put the fob in the cubby cup holder to do not lost it. After that the Defender doesnt start at the first try given the typical 2 beeps when you try to start and the alarm is not disable. In order to start it she must to able and disable the alarm with the FOB and the Defender start without any fault. It's possible that the distance between th cubby and the alamr will be too much to do not recognize the FOB or I have a serious problem? In the meantime I ask her to put the FOB near the Alarm when she start the car to see if really this is the problem, but I like to be sure that is the problem or I have a gremlim. Cheers! I find with mine that as long as I unlock on the fob, it will always start 1st time. If I leave it unlocked and then try to start however, depending on how many times I have restarted and how long it has been switched off, sometimes it will start if i first disarm on the fob button but sometimes will need to be locked on the fob and then unlocked / disarmed as if it had been parked and locked.
The point i'm trying to make is that it's not exactly predictable which you will get  I believe I read that the immobilizer can read the fob from 60cm away so maybe the cubby is a bit too far? |

Hi Eduardo I had a similar thing happen when I had both my sets of keys on one key ring to sell the vehicle - the engine would not start .. so I removed the 2nd set of keys solved this straight away ... the reverse was true as I tried to use the vehicle when only had the key on the ring and no fob, and again it wouldn’t start so put the key and fob back on to the same ring and it was all good again.
