Wheels and Tyres....Confused !
Hi Folks,

I have searched various threads but cannot find the info succinctly so I can understand it and I am going round in circles getting more confused so I am hoping for some help please.

My 2001 TD5 commercial has tyres that say 205/16....therefore 16 inch tyres ? When I measure the wheel diameter from rim to rim its 17 inch ? which I dont understand. Where is the wheel diameter measured from?.

I need to change the tyres (its going to be used almost entirely for off roading) and it current has road biased tyres. The current wheels are rusted and look terrible so they are going to be changed too.

Will probably fit some cooper discoverer Pro mud tyres. 265/75/16 (ran these before on another truck) the 16 inch bit may depend on the answer to the next question.

What size wheels can you fit to a TD5 ? Can you fit both 16 and 17 inch ? and whats the benefits / drawbacks? I assume a 17 inch will give more ground clearance ????

Also to avoid having to fit spacers with 265 tyres (turning circle at RTV trials) I am thinking of offset steel wheels but I cannot find anywhere an explanation of the offset and how it fits with tyre size. Ideally I want to move the wheels out to fill the arches (dont mind a bit of extra mud flung up the side) with the 265 tyres. Any advice please on the offset codes allocated to wheel.

Any advice gratefully received

Second q
Go for a zero offset (et0) wheel. Stick to 16s. See above Thumbs Up

Thanks for the diagram, I can see why the rim to rim measurement was out now.

so 16inch diameter wheels. Can you advise what width rim do I need to go for to fit a 265 tyre? Looking at on line shop sthey seem to have various options (from 16 x 6.5 through to 16 x 10)

Thanks for the help

The widest tyre on a Wolf is 255x85R16, or more common size 235x85R16. However, I've read people run 265 without issues, but I wouldn't risk it (insurance). James

From the below you can see a "rough" guide. I think it's expecting no bulge at all so is very conservative

That link has appeared before but I'm afraid is woefully inaccurate. Darren
