If I remember correctly the Salisbury rear axle has 24 spline half shafts, the Rover rear axle is 10 spline.

More recent axles are all 24 spline (from 300tdi days, IIRC) but I don't know if the half shafts are the same length for the Salisbury axle. Darren

Is it difficult to get them welded or would anyone who is semi competent be able to achieve this?

The main thing is that the metal will almost certainly be heat treated to provide it's mechanical properties. Any welding will need to bear this in mind and possibly be redone as simply welding it will make the material softer again. Ed

I have welded my rear half shaft for my 2016 Puma. It never felt better. I welded the original half shaft to the standard cast iron drive member. The machine shop lathe a few thousands off to make sure it run true in the plane of rotation without wobble. What a terrible design, the half shaft's spline is still good at the differential end, but the slack ate both the drive member and the shaft's spline with time.

Aftermarket heavy duty drive members are made from 5140 steel instead of cast iron. But I welded the cast iron drive member just to make sure perhaps there is no harmonics that would destroy the drive train or some mumbo jumbo that the smart LR engineers.
