LRM Letter of the Month November 2019 issue
Is anyone else curious about why the writer of the LRM Letter of the Month in this issue ('Confessions of a mechanic') is in prison?

I think I've found out, but I'd be interested to see if others reach the same conclusion.

Apologies if you've not got the magazine. It's the one with the new Defender on the cover.

No, he was the one I first saw as well, but I think it safe to rule him out!

Just to drag my topic back up, I was hoping a few other people might have come up with some potential candidates for the identity of the letter writer.

The reason I started this topic was the only person I can find with the same name, who is the right age, comes from Cheshire, and has the same working background (using a combination of Linkedin, Companies House, what I believe is his redundant website, various press reports from the time and the details he gave in the letter) is not someone, given his dreadful crimes, whose letters I want to be reading in any magazine, regardless of how pertinent their content.

My concern however is if I'm mistaken, I don't want to suggest in public that the letter writer is in prison for something he didn't do (and the crime, if I am right, is as bad as it gets).

Please can anyone else with the magazine have a look and see what you come up with. It's safe to assume he's not the American Google will initially point you to of course!

Joe I’m not sure what your point is? I don’t subscribe to the magazine but I’m perplexed as to your reason for posting the thread? Perhaps I’m missing something obvious? 2015 HT XS 90

Sorry, I'm having to be so obtuse because if my suspicions are wrong, to publicly say 'I think the letter writer is in prison for xxxxxxxx', when he's not, frankly I'm worried I could end up getting sued.

If I'm right about why he's there, I think LRM have been very sloppy and should never have printed his letter, but I just want to see if anyone else reaches the same conclusion about his identity without me posting any direct links to what I've found.

Has Dave Phillips been banged up for crimes against the English language?

Not difficult to reach the same conclusion you're alluding to, and agreed if it's correct LRM really need a slap.

Thanks, there simply don't seem to be any other people who match all the details.

Yes. I agree. Did a bit of googling and came to the same conclusions rightly or wrongly.

I think any letter from an address pre-fixed HMP would be sorted out before publication. They can't be that desperate for letters can they? I don't usually read the letters in those magazines, but it wasn't even that entertaining or noteworthy.

Very poor editorial decision in my opinion. As I have said many times on here, I believe journalistic standards have slipped immensely over the last few years and if we have added two and two together and got four, they have, in this instance, stooped to an all time low.

Given that other people have now come to the same conclusion, I think I will write to them.

I asked my elderly mum about it last weekend and she was amazed such a person was actually allowed to write to magazines.

Thanks folks. Again, apologies for being so vague in my posts.

PS. I used the word 'obtuse' in my earlier post. I meant ambiguous. Sorry for any confusion.
