Thanks, that was exactly what I was looking for. The snowflake marking, in particular, was a feature that I really liked about the old ones, as they were very sure-footed in ice and snow. It sounds like the AT3 will meet my needs nicely. Darren

Unfortunately they don't make a 33" tire for a 16" rim. Defender 110 SW MY2011 2.4tdci decat, no EGR

We run the AT3 on a couple of Toyotas for work and I'm impressed with them. They handle well on the tarmac, in the wet and on sand whilst being significantly quieter than the BFG KO2s that we also use. The AT3's don't seem to grip quite so well in slippy mud compared with BFGs but they have all done 15k + so far on a combination of laterite, tarmac and crushed aggregate roads with no obvious wear. They also seem very resilient to damage from sharp rocks.

Having read this thread, and a couple of others elsewhere, I was quite keen on trying these, but they don't seem to offer a 265/75/16 like my current BFG ATs.
I can find 265/75/16s in the AT2, but not the AT3. It's a bit dissapointing as I wanted a well-regarded AT tyre for non-winter use, but was also attracted to the AT3 by the comments about it being quieter than the BFGs, and handling OK in the wet. I'm afraid I'm one of those who find that the BFG AT KO2 is a little more sketchy in the rain than the earlier incarnations. Am I just looking in the wrong places? Has anyone seen the AT3s in the 265/75 size? I can't comment on the size, I'm afraid - I went with 235/85's - but the AT3's are ideal for winter use as they're mountain snowflake marked. I haven't seen any really cold temperatures where I am yet this year, but they are proving to be superb on twisty, hilly country lanes in the wet. Confidence inspiring and largely silent. Darren

Interesting to see that link to the 265/75. I searched again, and I just can't find it listed in the UK market. I've emailed General tyres UK to see what they say. I'm surprised that, if it's available, they wouldn't bring such a mainstream tyre size into the UK..?? LRA - it's good to see such a good review of the tyre after a longer period of use, and in what sounds like the same sort of conditions I'd be driving in. Makes me think it's really the sort of thing I'm looking for. At the risk of drifting slightly off topic.... I have two sets of 16" rims - the 'freestyle' 7" ones, and a set of the Staun TX-1s at 8". What I'd like to do is use the freestyles in winter (as they're older, and I'm not concerned about corrosion etc) and the Stauns in summer. I do still want All Terrains though, to be able to launch/recover boats on beaches and poor slipways, or to leave the tarmac when camping. I've been assuming that I need a wider tyre than 235/85 to cover the 8" Stauns - and a quieter, well-regarded AT is the aim. Hence the interest in AT3s in the 265/75 size. I could use my current BFGs on the freestyles until they wear out and fit a set of 235/85 AT3s then, but that still leaves the question of what to use on the Staun 8" rims. Maybe that will be sorted if I get an answer from General UK. Some people consider this a minor point but I can't help but point out that Freestyle alloys aren't rated for the weight of a 110. They were only ever offered on the 90.
To answer one of your other points, yes, 235/85's are too narrow for an 8 inch wheel, although once again many people ignore this and fit them anyway  Darren

(Apologies for my taking this further OT.) My mistake though - I got the name of my wheels wrong. They're actually the 'deep dish' alloys I have. These ones:  The wheel is stamped 952kgs. If I have it right, then that's OK for a 110? Max axle weight of 1750 or 1850kgs divided by 2? The WSM doesn't actually specify a load rating for wheels - but on the other hand, neither does it list alloy wheels as a 110 fitment. Meanwhile, still on the lookout for any info on 265/75 AT3s..... I replaced my MTR’s today after 66,000km of use. One let go last weekend (probably due to 4 years in Middle Eastern temps), to err on the safe side I replaced all the tyres. I went for General Grabbers in 235/85/16
After only a short drive I’m very impressed that the rumble in the cab that the MTR’s produced has gone, the Grabbers are very quiet. A bonus (as has been mentioned before) is the 3 peak winter rating, which will ease travel in Europe all year round for us.
