Australia 2003 Defender 90 Td5 HT Tonga Green
problem starting TD5 90
got a problem go to start dead the dash lights up with all symbols i found by locking and unlocking a couple off times WITH REMOTE it starts up as though nothing is wrong, changed battery in the remote did not make any diffidence any thoughts out there

Sounds like your starter solenoid may need rebuilding. Has nothing to do with locking and unlocking that might be just coincidental. Its actually turning the key a few times that gets it to start by energizing the solenoid a few times. Worth considering looking at it. Its an easy and cheap fix.

if it's a sticky solenoid, try thumping it with a lump of wood to free it up... worked for me for a while... but ultimately it will need rebuilt, kits on ebay for about a tenner I think...

Scotland 2007 Defender 90 Td5 HT Zambezi Silver
Had the same problem a few months ago, it was the starter connection onto the solenoid it was loose and covered in oil and road dirt, cut an inch off the cable put on a new crimp and cleaned the connection on the solenoid no more problems. nobody is perfect but being Scottish is a start
