Damage to a brake pipe could cause the caliper to stick - if, for example, it has been flattened by an impact to create a restriction which means that fluid can be forced through under pedal pressure but not back again - or, if you have ABS, it is possible that an ABS fault could cause this.
There is no other obvious reason why successive calipers in the same position on the car should fail repeatedly. |

Brake pads could be seized in their slider. That does happen sometimes

It’s non ABS on a 2004 Td5. I’ll have a good look under to see if anything looks damaged but I don’t think it’s ever been off road, abused or damaged. Maybe it’s just my usual luck returning Thanks for your replies.

What make of calliper was fitted?
Pop it off and check for rust/pitting on the piston. If it is then I can’t see it can be anything else other than bad luck, or cheap parts. |

How many miles did the first one last and how many miles has this one been on, over what time period? Cheers

First one was on it when I bought it so no idea how long it had been on but I ran with it for maybe 3 years? Second one has lasted about 18 months and probably about 8 thousand miles. The replacement was the same ‘make’ as the one that came off, but came from a motor factor who wanted my old unit as a return so it was likely a refurbished unit.
Is it a case that some will be refurbished better than others, and if so how can you tell when buying? |

8k miles over 18mths suggests a bigger issue than just a problem caliper. as above looks for causes for it to fail. squashed hose as mentioned most likely. replacing the caliper will fix it for now but it will come back around. Cheers
