Focal ibus how?
Ok so the parcels have arrived, and have been quickly snuck in the garage ready for next weekend.

Set of
Focal ES100K speakers, tweeters, and crossovers for the front
Focal PC100 for the rear
Focal IBUS 2.1 sub
Under cubby sub box.

So how do you wire the front speakers. Plan was to just run them from the head unit. BUT, if I’m reading it correctly, I can power the front Focal ES100k kit by the amp inside the Focal IBUS 2.1 sub. Is that correct?

Is that what is recommended?
If I do it this way what do I connect to the sub? Obvs power and trigger but rca, and then speakers out, or speakers in, and out, plus rca? Or just speakers in and out, no rca? No I haven’t read the instructions yet. Didn’t have time.

Should I amp the front if I’m not amping the rear, and just leave the sub amped?

Thanks
Andy.

Fitted mine last year. From recollection, and excuse my basic terminology, you have the long wiring loom, with two smaller black/brown connectors that go into the rear of your head unit where your front speaker connectors would normally go, whilst they plug into the larger black ‘female’ connector. I then wired the tweeters and front speakers into the cross-overs as directed. Note, there is just about enough space to get the crossovers in behind each speaker.

Also note that if you put the sub on the floor under the middle seats, and you play Rage Against The Machine, you’ll swear there’s something wrong with either the engine or gearbox, because the vibrations through the drivers footwell is amazing. Was really quite worried until I turned the sound off and realised what was going on.... Rolling with laughter Monsieur Le Grenadier

Ahh so you’ve amp’d the front speakers and left the rear just on the head unit. Does that not sound odd/uneven?

That is my concern.

I’m also unsure if I can run the bigger connector for the loom up behind my Td5 dash, an I’ve already run RCA’s. I may try it first.

Thanks
Andy

Yes, but I have a DC, so no rear speakers. I'll be adding two at the rear, two above the headlining, and a mate who is a sound engineer will wire them in. I think I need a bridge of some sort... Monsieur Le Grenadier

Yes, when I had my double cab I put rear speakers in by the rear doors.

From reading I think the amp inside the sub, is only 55watt, and the head unit, well mine, is 50watt, so not much difference either way.

If I had room I would install new 4way amp for all the speakers, but space is a premium, and they are only 100mm speakers.

I've got the same set up as you and unless you're even more hard of hearing than I am, the sound is more than impressive. And that's with my music streaming from Spotify Premium through BT as opposed to hard digital download. And despite its size, the bass is more than adequate. .... Thumbs Up

On mine I'll be putting a pair of extra 10cms in the lining above the b-pillars and then a pair of 14cms in the rear corners of the headlining. Monsieur Le Grenadier

Hello chaps,

I’m hoping to upgrade my HU and install the ibus 2.1 and focal ES100k kit.

Just wondered if you have pics or drawings for wiring it all up please?

Do I use RCA from HU to Amp ? Then how do I wire in the crossovers etc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Also the settings you have used on the crossovers?! Very Happy '09 Puma 110 CSW XS

The focal sub unit comes with a wiring loom that you plug into your head unit and the sub. It also then contains the returning wires for the front speakers which are no amp powered. You then instal crossovers to that.

It’s all very very simple and self explanatory once you get it and open the box. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

That’s correct. No RCA just use their loom. I was going to do my own thing and had planned it all in my head. Then the kit turned up and was surprised to see the loom, so went with it and am very happy with instal. Down side is that I can’t alter sub settings from head unit (RCA settings) but have mounted sub adjusted so it really removes need to once setup.

Has anyone mounted an iBus2.1 to the rear of a cubby box?

I have an Exmoor Loc Box cubby which is 50mm taller than a standard box at 360mm high so don't want the additional height of the MUDStuff locker underneath.

I have bought a focal Ibus 20 sub, instead of 2.1 by mistake but whats the difference? Was going to mount it under the cubby in a MUDstuff box. Bit bothered about the height of the cubby though, seems a bit high. Anyone got any experience? In reply to astroarcadia, I had a pheonix gold sub mounted at the back of a cubby on another defender. It was fine but dont leave coins in the cubby!! they vibrate like hell

I think the Mud Sub Locker works with a standard cubby, not so sure with the extra height that a lox box gives.

sub locker is 95mm high.

Exmoor Loc box cubby additional 50mm over standard.
