Deep/low judder from underneath and behind passenger seat..
Hi,

I'm hearing a wierd low 'tapping' or more like a juddering sound from underneath the car, left side - possibly behind the front passenger seat/under the rear seat....
Impossible to identify accurately while driving.. and can;t hear it at any other time..

It only happens when i'm in gear and allow the revs to drop.. so just before the ecu kicks in to keep the revs at idle there is this low judder.. which i swear wasn't there when i got the car.. 3000km only from new..

I also had a bit of a look under .. checking the steering and suspensions - but a really cursory examination.. and didn't notice any loose bolts - nothing looked abnormal.

However am wondering if this might be more like the issue.. ?
if anyone can share.. much appreciated!

Sounds like the hand brake grabbing at lowspeeds mine did it all the time just needs adjusting keeps the shoes in place better. Changed the return springs eventually and all cured. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

Interesting - I had a similar experience the other day. I was in 1st, leaving a car park and going up a slight incline. I was just letting the 110 pull itself along, not applying any throttle and it started make a juddering/rumbling vibration.

It wasn't close to stalling either.

It has done it on occasion when in neutral, when the engine is cold. A quick rev and it goes away. I can't figure out what could be vibrating.

check the bushes on your radius arms, your shocker bushes, the ball joint on the drag link and the same on the track rod.

does the steering feel ok generally? Also check the engine mounts on the n/s under the bonnet (i know the noise sounds like its coming from underneath but it can resonate). also check the rear n/s shock and both spring mounts

also the uj's, see if you can move them and hit the props with a metal spoon, see what sound it makes.

if its none of those things then you're down to transmission i think.

This might be a long shot.Mine was in the habit of making knocking noises going over bumps or starting and stopping. Took ages to trace. Turned out to be a missing rubber buffer on the bonnet hinge. The hinge was banging in the metal bracket. Might be worth seeing if there is play in the bonnet hinges. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Another thought - check the outrigger bolts. Can be found just under the rear of the front wheel arches.

Hi,
Big Mike, this sounds really like wat i have been thinking.. unfortunately haven;t had 10 minutes to spare since my last post.. but hopefully over the next few days should have the chance to check the undercarriage..
Will report asap..
Thanks all..
Thumbs Up

PS: reason i'm thinking that its a suspension/UJ/engine mount issue is that (and apologies for forgetting to mention this earlier) i find the rattle happens when running over rough ground a lot more.. in fact come to think of it.. it might only be happening when i'm on dirt/unpaved roads which is currently 100% of the time..
Anyhow.. i shall post an update soon..
Cheers. 2011 110 Tdci
