Outright Purchase?
I now have a few too many 4WD vehicles and I'm going to sacrifice the S2a because the non-syncro box means I am the only person who uses it.

I've been burnt with SOR before, so am looking at an outright sale; namely a lot of waffle and people not taking care of my vehicle whilst with them. Not desperate to shift it because it is a lovely, fully restored example but having the garage space back also has a value.

Has anyone had any positive experiences with Land Rover specialist who have been decent to deal with regarding an outright purchase? I'm a realist and know that they have to make a margin but I also don't need to hear a load of justification for why they are offering 45%< less than retail.

I have a project 1962 S2 for sale, full galv chassis new running gear and a solid decent Defender bulkhead on it. Like you, was looking for an out right sale without the " how much for ? " questions, so I emailed a Land Rover restoration dealer with pics and some info on it......Had email back saying, " sorry its to far gone "..... its virtually new....muppets Putting Dreams on Drives at JLR Solihull..

Try on here to be fair - I haven't had any personal experience but both Williams Classics and Huddersfield Land Rover centre seem to buy good stock. What they ask in terms of margin, I am unsure.

Series values seem all over the shop so I do think dealers tend to achieve more than private as people know it comes with some form of warranty but for that they want a strong margin. Good luck

I'll look after it for you Whistle Very Happy Shocked

Is it not worth a try selling here first? I appreciate selling privately can be a hassle but it isn't always.

What about sending it to a classic auction? James

Personally, I've found those mentioned VERY good at talking down the market when buying and more than capable of doing the opposite should you call to speak with them about purchasing. I've bought and sold enough cars to be a realist and, running my own business, I understand overheads and the need for a decent margin but I stand by what I said in my original post, insulting offers are exactly that... insulting.

As for selling via the forum; I haven't found that to be worth the hassle.

In the case of the S2a, it is now going to a non-LR specialist who I have sold to before and the price offered was fair and reasonable to both parties. Thumbs Up

I've said it before but far too many LR specialists seem to treat the owner community as ignorant and naive. It is shame that you have to leave that niche community to get decent service and not to be treated like a fool.

I'm sure there must be great independent LR specialists but I'm yet to stumble across one.

Damn... I’m looking for tidy Series IIa...

Alas honest ones are becoming very difficult to find, many overpriced badly repaired/restored out there and killing my enthusiasm to continue looking...
