Puma 2.2 Temp Gauge Rise and power loss
Hello!

Really hoping someone can help, new to owning a Tdci 2.2, used to have a 300tdi so I’m completely lost Big Cry

Tonight after a cold start about 5 miles down the road, 40/50mph I lost all power and noticed the temp in the red, nearly died of panicking overheating and blowing the head! However almost as soon as it was slowing down due to power loss the temp came back to normal and power restored, no warning lights etc and after taking it out again to get a video, I’ve learnt turning the engine off when the temp is in the red, and straight on again it restores the power instantly, almost resting something that’s failing? The fan when in the red when I pulled over was going like a maniac,

Video on YouTube -
If that doesn’t work search: Puma 2.2 Temp Rise power loss

Really hoping something simply like a relay or temp sensor maybe? Fault repeats itself at slower speeds, seemed ok at motorway speeds,

Apologies for bad grammar and spelling! and thank you in advance Bow down

Harry

I had a similar issue on my 2.4 which turned out to be the ECT engine coolant sensor reading incorrectly, one give away was when i turn on the ignition from cold the temp gauge would rise slightly, may be worth a try.

Also do the heaters go cold? 2016 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 TDV8

Sounds like dodgy sensor as already mentioned. Cheap place to start as well.

I noticed the coolant wasn’t up to the cold level, infact not even in the header tank, so topped that up per the workshop manual and it was giving off a bit of grey blue smoke, so it’s on a trailer to the garage! a better safe than sorry later on!

Mine did this 2.4...

I have a ultra gauge and temp sits at 85 / 89 all day long normally.

It creeped up and up one day on the way to work (it was a hot day) and engine went into limp mode. I kept stopping to make it to garage, at one point I saw 114 Big Cry

Anyway topped up with collant and was fixed the following day, a temperature valve. Genuine part around £80 and its sorted,

Bit unnerving though when it just doesn't want to go

So it turned out to be the head Big Cry

New head going on etc hopefully it will be sorted! Was hoping it wasn’t the expensive option but glad I got it trailered to the garage!

Yea I know!

Erm think around 73,000-75000, completely standard engine wise, no map etc think I’ve just been unlucky!
