Not good news update!
Thanks all so far for advice and recommendations - the engine has now been fully inspected, head off and compression tested and they have found that the small end bushes have destroyed themselves inside the con rods. I am not particularly mechanically minded but have been advised that engine replacement due to the damage this has caused is advised.

What can be reused from the old engine will be and a recon turbo charger with 24000 mile warranty added as apparently it is a potential risk to use an existing turbo from a knackered engine.

Once fixed the wagon will be used as an occasional vehicle so based on the above if anyone has any further advice or experience I would be appreciative be I press the lets proceed button!
