Maggi works, as said the ladder rests against the rack itself. We had 3 box section tubes made up that go cross ways to make it easy to fit.

Watching, I’m also wondering if a maggi would work without butchering the rack.

it will fit if the rack inside width is wider than the maggi which I think is 130 cm for the smallest in their range 130 may be the inner maggi dimension so best check with them 110 Defender 300tdi & Penman trailer with ally exped top and roof tent

The small is 1.3 x 2.1 & fits inside the rack easily. I’m 6ft 1in & plenty big enough for me.

I’ve chopped my rack to fit a roof tent

I’m going to find some brackets to join the part I cut off back on for when tent is not mounted

Think that’s the best way to use genuine rack for a roof tent

Hi j17 - a few months later, any thoughts on your choice to chop the rack?

I am having the same debate to work out whether I chop to get a fold-out tent on top, go for a small hardtop (but awnings less useful), or replace the LR expedition rack & ladder in entirety.

None seems ideal but your's is the first photo I have seen of option #1 and I wonder whether you've any regrets?

Many thanks, T.

I’ve got the same rack and was planning on getting the tentbox pop up as it definitely fits. Not sure how it compares to the Maggi though?

Sorry T

Completely missed this, I got the rack welded back together and sold it, we now have the Flatdog rack and kept the original ladder. It’s much easier to get around the tent to open zips etc using Flatdog rack, I got a bespoke box made for the front too which fits our camping chairs and table, there are some pics on my Instagram

Cheers

Any chance of some closer pictures of the bar fitment you went for, realise it was a while ago?
