Hi,
(1994 Tdi) I have a new loom just fitted - which came with the wiring/socket for a fog light switch to the lower right of the steering column, down where the heated rear windscreen and hazard light switches are. However my car has the fog light switch on steering column. No big deal really, just one of those minor discrepancies between an aftermarket loom and a 'change of production' car - where mine was one of the first 300tdi Defenders. So, I'm not sure now whether to put a switch in the dash (don't have one to hand, but there is an empty space in that three-switch panel) or to cut off the plug that fits the switch and splice into the wiring for the steering column one. If I did that - splice the wires - the wiring looks surprisingly hefty. What's the max current going through those wires, at the fog light switch? I have an LED one fitted, so I'm sure that will be drawing less current, but I'd like the wiring to be able to cope with an OE incandescent bulb fitting. Ta! 1x 21W fog light bulb at 12V is 1.75A
Even if you protected for future fitting of 2x fog bulbs you're only looking at 3.5A 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |

Hi Martin,
Thanks for the reply - I forgot I'd asked this, as plans changed. I'm now going to relocate my hazard switch (to a nice, red, Carling one) in the top of a Raptor console. This means there will be even more space on the lower dash panel, so I will fit the foglight there and, with fewer switches there, there will be less fumbling about if I need to use it. In our neck of the woods it's not something we use often anyway. All of that said.... if plans change again I'll have the info I need close to hand, ta.
