Not advice as such, but my father had 2 of them as work vehicles. Both did well over 200k Miles. Regularly serviced was all, no major problems I can recall.

Is there a potential issue with head gaskets going, or is that just the V6?
Other than that they seem to be pretty reliable from what I read  2014 110 XS Utility

The V6 certainly on the Mk1 Freelander was prone to head gasket failure as was the 1.8 Petrol. My other half had loads of problems with her V6 and it was low mileage at 30K.

Apparently it isn't unknown for freelanders to have had the IRD removed, effectively making them a 2wd car It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

That sounds like a lot of money for 13+ year old Freelander 1. There are lots around for half that or less, and many more have been scrapped.
There are instances of turbo and fuel injector problems with the BMW Diesel engine, both can be expensive to fix. |

That seems to be between about two and five times the going rate, so it ought to be stunningly immaculate!
