300 tdi overheat & fuel leaking out of cap down car body
Hi all, I like to pickle your brains.
Had over heating issues recently work already done:
Thermostat replaced.
Sniff test done.
Coolant hoses are ok
Expansion tank is ok, no splits
Made sure there no trapped air pockets in system.
New expansion tank cap.

I went for small run and the temp gauge was halfway as usual. Then 1 hour in, now it slowly goes into red and then past.
Coolant leaking from cap is visible so I am really confused why.
Coolant colour is brown ni white cloudy mix.

In additional filled up the fuel tank to full yesterday and there is fuel leaking out from from cap. I have replaced with new cap but keeps on happening

Can you advise please. I have no idea.

Thanks HG

I think it's 2 separate things.

1. I think the head is toast.
2. The vemt line of the fuel tank is blocked. Rock the Landy sideways and look if the fuel drains out of the filler neck.

My old V8 used to push out the fuel until I started doing this.

Thanks for reply.

Shame if the head is done for. I thought it was ok. I read up if head gasket done then coolant should be white cloudy colour. Coolant at moment is brown which it colour of the coolant.
Odd the mechanic didn't pick it up when sniff tested it for exhaust gases.

I will rock the landy tomorrow. Thanks

Sniff test on diesels are notoriously difficult.

Good luck. Hope I'm wrong.

Did you stop filling the tank when the auto shut off at the garage clicked the first time or did you do what so many do easy the filler out a bit and put some more in?.

It sounds as if the tank has been over filled and in the current heat there is no room for expansion except through the filler cap. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place,
so it doesn't take much to Censored us off.

Yep the auto shut off was used.
I see you point with the heat but not heard of it.

Update 25 April. Truck runs ok if revs and speed are low.
Auxiliary fan used alot to attempt control of engine temperature.

Fuel cap wise seems to have stopped but that's because fuel level is halfway. If it does turn out fuel tank vent is dodgy. Is it difficult to repair/sort? Thanks
