New Ram Mount for defender dash
So just received my new ram mount and replaced the centre dash top screw with it (td5)

I have a couple of questions/observations...

By memory I believe that the screw goes into a plastic plug insert so cannot take excessive tightening. I have tightened it up as much as I dare, but when I clamp on the ram mount and arm I have enough leverage to either tighten it some more or slacken it off. This logical problem had not dawned on me until I fitted it.

Also, the X grip rotates once my phone is fitted. I have found two solutions on line ( Velcro phone to centre of X grip or wrap elastic band between one arm and the centre) both of which are not very elegant solutions.

So, in conclusion, the defender ram mount is a good solution but not perfect, and has anybody got any less Heath Robinson solutions to preventing the X grip from rotating? 2002 110 td5

I have the same issue. I was quite disappointed when I realised this happened. Watching with interest

I bolted mine through the ash tray and haven't had any problems - I have a large phone and not had any issues with rotating etc.

Apologies if I have not understood the problem you guys are having.

No, I took the ash tray out and removed the cover - then drilled holes and used small bolts to attach the RAM mount

Hi Jimb, what have you used to connect the Ram mount to the dash as I can not tell from your photograph?

We have used ram mounts for holding iphones, ipads and tough books. The only time we have had movement is on extremely rough roads.

It’s this one. It is marketed as utilising the central dash screw behind the ash tray. 2002 110 td5

I used to use the Ram Mount Twist Lock Suction Base until a few weeks back when it decided to fall off, got spotted by the motion detector then set the alarm off. Fortunately for the neighbours they got to hear the two uprated horns I fitted a few years ago.

Its amazing how fast you can run when you think your motor is being tampered with.

I took the tapered base off the suction section then attached it to the inner side of the windscreen vent (TD5) with a longer screw. I did not screw the other side to the dash but instead used 3m High Bond Tape so it can come off again without leaving a hole. I have also done the same for the passenger side to.
