Td5. Brake pipe
Had brake failure today on my 2003 td5 defender
Brake pipe from front to rear failed near where it connects into flexy due to rust
Luckily managed to slow using gears
I think I will buy brake pipe on the roll. And make my own up and may replace the other pipes if any rust is found
The question is what is the best brake pipe ? I have seen you can buy copper Or another mix of materials
And what is best flaring tool to buy ?

Thank. Mark

I use copper and bought a standard flaring set. I used it on my disco 3 and 90 td5. Roel

I always use Kunifer pipe and make my own. Sykes Pickavant flaring tools are generally the best.

I always use Kunifer, (cupro nickel) it doesn't work harden like copper.

Thanks all
Brake pipes now replaced
I purchased a roll of copper pipe to start with but changed my mind after reading reviews on different brake pipe materials
I retuned the copper and ordered a roll of cunifer pipe
I ordered the Sykes pickevant flaring tool as recommended
I discovered my defender has metric fittings (din) so had to return the selection of fitting I purchased as imperial
There was quite a lot to learn about different types of flares. DIN. SAE SINGLE AND DOUBLE FLARES and the threads are very similar ie an imperial end will fit into metric but feels very flopppy
Armed with my new Sykes pickervant tool cunifer pipe and new inexpensive bending tool The pipes acros rear axel were changed , front offside and I replaced half of the pipe rear to front putting an inline connector half way as front section was not corroded

Thanks mark

You can always gently use the handbrake as a way of stopping the car quickly if you have no time for engine compression.
