"HI-FI" speaker..... you mean just silly expensive multi-cored flex?
Just get a roll of 0.75mm twin flex. More than adequate enough for hifi systems. Don't believe the hype that "oxygen free" cable or whatever fad is on the market will suddenly turn your system into B&O or Bose equipped theatre.... your ears won't be able to tell the difference! |

Agree (to some degree!) with diesel-jim
Read a brilliant piece on the actual technology, not the crazy marketing ![]() I use Van Damme 2.5mm Blue (lower/mid-range but great value) from Mark Grant https://www.markgrantcables.co.uk/department/speaker-cables/ or https://www.markgrantcables.co.uk/uk/speak...erminated/ Sensible price, but also good quality - and Mark's great to deal with... The unterminated (assume that will work for you) is pretty cheap (£2.75/metre), and great quality... I don't have a spare 30m length or would give it to you... I do have some shorter lengths you could have but I am not home till Friday... 30m is quite long, so I would use something half-decent...Cheap bell wire may deteriorate on that length of a run...The report by Roger Russel (1st link) shows how resistance in thin wire can drop over distance...The Van Damme is 14 AWG so suitable for up to 80 feet...I would not go thinner as you could be subject to excess resistance... Based on the research, those paying up to £1000 for cables are ...well...politely victims to marketing ![]() Some magazines suggest you should spend 10% of your Hi Fi budget on cables!! I'm a Cyrus fan ![]() |

Cheers guys.
I'm well up on my Hi-Fi and my ten year old Cyrus kit serves me well - without the expense of high end speaker cable. However, attempting to get round a solid floor problem, I'm having to run speaker cable out through a wall around the outside of the room and back in, hence the long length (approximately 15m and 12m lengths). Posted on here, on the off chance someone might have a length of half decent cable taking up space. Will purchase something new if nothing turns up here or on ebay in the next week or so. Will also try Hi-Fi wigwam. It started with a kiss, never thought it would come to this. SIII CSW Safari, limestone, (JAC 914N). Where is she now? It's not a car, it's a way of life! |
