Definitely not ladder frame chassis so the new Defender will not be used for ramming your local convenience store and helping themselves to the ATM. It will be built on the new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) which I think means that vehicles of varying length can be built on the same line, ie 90, 110 and 130. Defender 90XS SW

What do you expect for a starting price of £43,000? Some people are never satisfied, you'll have more crumble zones, air bags and seat belt tensioners than you can shake a stick at, oh and keyless entry to keep the thieves happy. You're just going to have to tow one, which will be a piece of cake with "tow assist" and rear view camera as standard for hitching.

That photo also makes me wonder if anyone will provide a road-rail adaptation of the new Pretender! Unlikely, I think!

Don't be so sure - it's been done for a Discovery Sport:

That wouldn't be allowed on Network Rail infrastructure for a whole gamut of reasons. To me that is a publicity stunt, nothing more.

It wouldn't look so good one all the mandatory lighting equipment was fitted (and I don't actually think it would be very useful).

It does however prove that it is possible.

For me to have ever considered buying a "new" one it would to have basically looked a lot like the old one, with new underpinnings and interior. I don't care what materials they make it from or what suspension set up it has. I want the angled roof over the cab, the shoulder curve, the slatted grille, round lamps, steel wheels, white roof, green body, upright windscreen.

Even Roger Crathorne said basically the above in his book "Born in Lode Lane". 2011 110 USW
