valve stem seals
any one renewed the valve stem seals ,with out taken the head off .

I will not recommended it.

There are 2 ways, I know of, to do it and I don't like any of these:

1. Compressed air to keep the valves up.

Or

2. Stuff rope in combustion chamber, turn engine to lock valves up.

Much easier with petrol engines.

I recommend get the extra gaskets and pull the head.

A Tdi has a very small gap between the piston and the valve, so they can be done in situ with the engine in the correct position.

Thanks! I love making useful tools.
I read the whole thread including the second one that he created.
Unfortunately this guy had quite a hassle to get everything right.

But the principal will work.
