Do I need to undercoat Dirt Defenders before paint?
And if so, what would you recommend?

Thanks

My thoughts would be yes. You will need a primer that is designed for flexible plastic, you can buy this in a spray can from Halfrauds in different colours - check the primer colour for the final paint colour. you'll also need panel wipe to degrease & probably worth keying the surface using suitable grade wet and dry. I'd also flat the primer back between coats, as well as between colour & lacquer coats.

Not painted dirt defenders but these were the last project I did - this is before the final flatting back & lacquering.

A powder or spray guide coat can also be useful, especially for finishing primer before base coat.

You do flat with solid colours between coats but not with metallics. Thumbs Up

VVS - That took some time and effort for such a nice finish. Thumbs Up Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

They're the shells to a pair of Peltor Sporttac electronic ear defenders. Did them back in the summer after a supposed professional did a Censored job starting with no primer & with a lot of overspray due to poor masking. Decided I could do the job better myself so I did!
