Heavy Clutch
I have had a few Defenders so recall that that clutch is much heavier than other cars. I have just bought a Puma which I am pleased with but I am "in transition" getting used to a manual car again as apposed to my Range Rover Auto. my question is though, why are Defender clutches so heavy (or maybe you disagree)? Also, are there any options to ease the pressure on the clutch leg? Sweatysock

Conversely I've just fitted a 130 clutch to my 110 after an engine swap (snapped the crank) and actually found it quite nice and light and pleasant to drive. Only done about 30 miles so far but in fairness the swap started late morning yesterday and finished it a few hours ago. Ed

Clutches work harden, the fingers in the pressure plate get stiffer with use. A new clutch will always feel light when new and then slowly get heavier with use Thumbs Up

Red booster will make it light forever as the servo takes away most of the effort required to depress the pedal Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Been thinking quite long and hard about fitting a Red booster so my wife can easily drive the 110. Everything I have read and heard makes the kit sound miraculous... Pretty good price too Thumbs Up

What about fitting a Valeo clutch, that's what i have got and it's like driving a car, the clutch is very easy to press Wink

Before i fitted the Valeo clutch, the Borg Warner clutch was a heavy/hard clutch to press, since i fitted the Valeo, i have never regretted making that decision Thumbs Up 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

I've always stuck with the genuine clutch, but there has been changes made since the first gen.
(As far as I'm aware.)
The clutch I have now seems much better than the original factory fit.

Regarding the Red Booster, never head anything bad about them. But it would be interesting to hear more experiences of those that do have them. Diesels Lives Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨‍🔧🧰⚙️

One of my customers runs a Red booster kit on a tdi. Makes the clutch much nice to use and the vehicle easier to drive for those that struggle with clutch effort. Cheers

I had a chat with my local garage about the clutch and as suspected it will need to be replaced within the not too distant future....but no immediate rush.

Interestingly, I asked about their red booster opinion and they said their feedback they had was that whilst it made the clutch extra light and worked well, it also made it very difficult to feel the biting point. Assuming this is accurate, I am not convinced it would be a great solution if you venture off road but perhaps brill if you do many road miles .......just a view Sweatysock
