Landy Man
Hi there everyone. Just wanted to highlight a possible scam. I purchased a combined key and alarm fob from the landyman. Upon receipt of the item I diligently followed the instructions after having the key cut. Plug in ODB dongle and wait 30 secs. The coding failed and the instructions said to return the key and dongle (which now holds the ecu security coding info) back to them and they would code the key! Needless to say I cannot do this without voiding my insurance. So I took key to have it coded by land rover specialist at additional cost of £30 which landy man refuses to re emberse.

Whilst it may be annoying but £30 is a small price to pay for security when the alarm bells start ringing. Personally I think you have done the right thing.

Landy man could refer to several traders. Landy Man Ltd has been dissolved by company house, &*”thelandyman does not have the worlds best reputation. There is at least one other trader using the title Landy man.

I would have a couple of suggestions

1). Get on good working terms with the parts manager at your local independent Land Rover dealer. They can be a fountain of useful knowledge and recommendations.

2). Want recommendations then ask on here as there are some very knowledgeable people on here.

Be careful buying from various auction sites. Do some basic checks, does trader have a website rather then just a face book page, a landline phone number, a physical address (have a look on street view) a valid VAT number.

Please do not let this negative experience put you off your Defender, there are plenty of good people in the LR world.

It has not put me off at all but thought worth mentioning as it would be an easy thing to do if not thought through. Thanls for the response, very much appreciated.

you have done the right thing I have seen this sort of thing on the internet before . in my mind you would be giving some stranger the keys to your pride and joy . I know it going to be more expensive going to a dealer but they have your details anyway .
