Brendan says everyone needs to be vigilant, and quite right too. But the Land Rover community should stop buying cheap spares with unknown provenance. The LR community is purely feeding the criminal activity. Defender 90XS SW

First thank you to Siwynne for spotting this. I have sent the link across to Duckworths as there are a few points which get the bells ringing, but I will not say so on an open forum. If any well established members want to know pm me.

To sites such as ebay in general

There are many things to watch out for on ebay. First look at the sellers rating 100% looks good doesn't it? That is down to that seller being mainly a buyer rather then a seller in last year or so. 3 sales and 34 purchases. Buying a lot of cheap stuff is one way of getting your rating up.

Have a look at feedback on other items sold.

22 iphones and about 12 ipads and other tablets in their history

Surely selling so many iphones etc should be registered as a business seller or are my alarm bells ringing in error?

If a business seller is VAT number correct? A landline number? Have a look on street view. Have a quick look in Company House. Have a careful read of the description.

Does it make sense that a private individual has multiple items for sale?

Have sold my Defender and have this spare bonnet for sale. How many of us have a spare bonnet in our garage?

Is the price too cheap? Read the description carefully. Why is it so much cheaper then other say branded items?

Do you know the seller or has the seller got a good reputation with your friends. Remember the con artist on here about a year ago?

If the deal looks too good to be true then it normally is.

Buy cheap stuff of sites such as ebay and you may well be buying stolen/illegal goods.

Nicely put, Brendan Thumbs Up

Everyone should be this vigilant when buying from the bay (or Gumtree, FB, etc.etc)

And also discomog's comments. You are spot on.

Recently pulled up a gumtree add, tuned out to be legit.

Brendan, For a while i had a spare Nissan pathfinder bonnet from when i sold it. I Bought a vented one, and the buyer wasn't willing to pay what i wanted for it so kept it in the garage adorning the short wall.

When i moved i had to sell it as "Sold as i sold my Pathfinder"!

Im more the exception than the rule though... took me 10 months to sell it though... I'm on IG: https://www.instagram.com/osloblue42/

It’s a fair comment, OsloBlue, not everyone on these auction sites are rancid. There are millions of genuine adverts added by normal people like you and me (well as normal as anyone living in Norfolk could be Laughing ). It’s a shame that as a community of enthusiasts, we must second guess items which we find for sale.
