Bowler Spare Wheel
Just ordered a bowler wheel 18inch for my spare. Will be on BFG 285/60/18 tire. Just wondering does it fit the original spare wheel holder or do I need spaced or any mods to have it fit? Also with the rear door opened will it hit the lights? Thanks.

I don't think you'll have any issues. I have 16" Bowler with very similar tyre diameter with no issues. I believe the 18" are ET15 compared to 16" being ET10 but sure it will be OK.

You might want a spare wheel lock of Brendan Whistle James

Spare wheel lock of Brendan? I’m thinking using a chain lock over it. Although I seen a padlock for spare wheel on a defender. Really neat looking lock. Anyone got a recommendation of locks? Thanks.

Sorry... off Brendan the forum sponsor from 4x4overlander https://www.4x4overlander.com/product/defe...protector/

I used a soft bike lock temporarily but it wore a tiny dink in the paint Big Cry

The padlock type you mention, if it's the one I'm thinking of won't fit the Bowlers. James

from my experience 285's will hit the lights on opening the door fully. I added a spare wheel carrier (mantec) and this stopped the lights hitting issue. They were ET0 wheels

Damn. You are right. It hit the lights when fully opened. So what are my options? Does Mantec swing away solve the problem? Can anyone confirm pls? Thanks.

The mantec sorted it for me as the wheel is bolted in a slightly different position and the arm effectively stops it. I think Mantec have gone bust though but hopefully someone should be able to tell you.

Cheers

Ordered a mantec swingaway with spacer and longer bolts. Should be sorted as long I don’t messed up with the drilling of the holes.

Finally managed to fit the bowler as a spare. For those that using mantec swingaway army version, u will need the extension and the spacer. The wheel doesn’t touch the inductor.
