Exhaust upgrade
Hi,

This is just about getting a better sound out of my 2.4 tdci.

I have looked for various videos on you tube to try and find out what its likely to sound like. I have also phone Alive an Twisted

Alive suggest a decat system.
By contract twisted suggest a single silencer system that fits in behind the decat and then flows straight through - their advice is the turbo will overspool if you decat.

Can anyone advise please.......

Does decatting enhance or lessen the turbo (sppoling more freely or overspooling) ?

On various videos you can hear a "blowvalve" type sound (darth vadar noise) when you come off the accelorator. From the titles it seems this is only on the decat videos. Is that "blowvalve" type sound the result of decatting ?

Cheers

My advice? Buy a Honda Civic and go for Mugen.

Sorry for being ironic. Bergos

I’ve tried a few systems, Tdci, and Td5. You get much better sound and performance from a decat.

Andy.

I only removed the cat (straight through tube, DA4359) and left both silencers. All in all the engine has become more agile, the sound hasn't changed. Also the exhaust temperatures should drop a bit.
Since the vehicle is also on the road as EURO 2 version with exactly this constellation, I think the overspeed discussion is total nonsense.

This is mine...

On my big noisy car, removing the secondary cat's also made a huge difference. and this was an already shouty 600hp naturally aspirated v12.

Qestion: Decat and no silencers at all? And what is the main difference between file 1 and file 2 in hardware, the second one is missing the spool sound a bit...

I really like it, but that spool-sound when lifting the foot is annoying

Decat with if i remember correctly one silencer box,

the spool sound is a standard turbo, you don't get it with the hybrid turbo setup..

Why would anyone want their Defender to sound like a teenager's Seat Ibiza or Vauxhall Corsa? Defender 90XS SW

To be honest, when i bolted my alive system on i was still a teenager so.............

Also it's hardly anti social, just a bit more raspy than the standard exhaust, also some performance is gained.

Dexterdog - I have a twisted full exhaust system on a 2.4 - this is a decat system so instead of a cat converter it has been removed but instead of a straight bit of pipe it has a silencer in its place - hence passing an MOT as it visually looks like a cat is there. This gives some back pressure for the turbo to spool up and then allows no restriction from there all the way back. I love it.

From looking at alives website - there's is just a back half system so leaves the cat in place (in the front pipe from the turbo).

The other option if you want to decat is simply buy a cheap front pipe without the cat so straight through. But you will still have the other silencers in the exhaust (one in the tail pipe and one in the centre pipe from memory).

So it is up to you what you go for but varying options and expense

Obviously removing your catalytic converter is illegal before someone else mentions

This is the Alive system for a 110. It leaves the factory cat/DPF in place. But if you speak to Alive they will supply a decat pipe on top of this giving you the full system.

Loud exhausts on really slow motors make me laugh.
