Locating engine rattle
Hi All,

My 300tdi csw has started to develop a loud rattle from the front of the engine . It’s sounds like a possible bearing failure and I reckon it’s either coming from the alternator or power steering pump/ belt area. Before I strip anything down to pinpoint the source of the sound is there anything prone to failing or any tips in how to locate annoying rattles.Cheers 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0

I am not sure how did your fault finding IB73 bur using a long screw driver as a stethoscope is very effective.
Of course a risk assessment would need to take place first and all safety precautions/findings followed. 2016 Defender Landmark 90

It didn’t occur to me to use a screwdriver actually - good call - as you said though completing a full risk assessment is advisable Wink 1999 300TDI 110 CSW BMW 3.0
