Noisy wiper motor
The wiper motor on my Defender TD5 makes a clicking noise at the end of the travel, as the blades reverse their direction. Is there anything l can do with it or do l need a new motor? I replaced the rack and wheel boxes a couple of years ago with genuine LR parts and they are still fine.

The click will be wear at some point in the drive mechanism. If you have recently replaced the rack and wheelboxes (and used good quality replacements) the most likely source will be the gear and crank mechanism in the motor. I believe that these are available as a separate parts though.

It is entirely normal for the prehistoric linkage on the Defender to do this, there are so many individual wear points that it is easy to understand why every other manufacturer changed to rod drive 40 years ago!

You can check for wear in the wheelboxes and drive rack by seeing how much relative movement there is between the two wiper arms (hold one and waggle the other), and to a lesser extent in the motor crank by waggling both wipers together.

Apart from being an irritant, a click/clunk from the crank is generally not harmful and the motor will run for years like this.
