Swivel housing,steering problem
Hi all, I’m new to the defender site . I bought a 2004 110 about a year ago
and have been renewing wheel bearings/ discs/pads and calipers etc. front
and back.
I’ve just changed front swivels ,pins bearings and cv joints.
My problem is that when I bolted on the stub axle the complete
housing has restricted movement ie lock to lock. I first thought that the bolts
were catching the swivel housing so I took the cv joint/ shaft out ,put the stub axle
back on and I had full lock to lock.
I put the old cv joint on again thinking I had the wrong one,but again restricted lock.
Is there a difference in swivel housings ?
BTW all steering components have been disconnected from the hub.
Any help greatfully accepted.
Thanks for viewing

Make sure the CV joint and halfshaft are pulled fully into the stub axle (outwards)

Also make sure you have the top and bottom bearing races in correctly. The races look the same however are very different and can easily be put in the wrong end. You can assemble it as if normal but it will not function properly. 2010 Range Rover MkIII Autobiography Super Charged (Idris)

Many thanks for your replies, I bolted the stub axle back on and pulled the cv joint fully into
the stub axle as Steve suggested and the whole thing moved smoothly, lock to lock. I would
not have thought of making that adjustment untill I was putting on the cir clip and spacers after fitting
the drive flange.
Everyday is a school day as they say
Many thanks again
