Budget for chassis change?
The time has come that I need to change the chassis of my 200 tdi 90 to a galv.

So how much should I budget for the change?

The chassis itself is the easy bit. But what else should I budget for and what other jobs should I be thinking about 'because I can' ?? ie jobs that are easier when the body is off or parts exposed rather than have to take it all apart in a couple of years.

When I did mine in the spring I managed to keep it under £4k just about. I changed various extra bits which needed doing but not too much. I reckon you could do it for £3k if everything else was well sorted, but not much less. Chassis alone is over £2k these days. Lifting the body off in one go helped me keep the cost down as it limited the number of things I was liable to discover.

I was chatting to a LR garage the other day discussing just this. It was suggested you budget £5k, this was chassis, various parts that would either break or you'd want to replace and labour. I suspect this may go up and up spending on upgrades whilst in bits? James

£3k if doing all the work your self and bulklhead is good and your not rebushing it or overhauling anything else (axles for example!) Cheers

Thank for the replies.

That was about the figure I was thinking.

So what other things should I be thinking about changing when I have it stripped down.

It's a difficult question to answer because in reality it depends on the state of things. For example I would change all the brake lines and chassis clips etc. but the fuel lines should be fine so long as the fittings come undone. Same for the loom.

A good chance to do the suspension bushes unless you know they’re good. Likewise the clutch would be wise unless recently changed. Fuel tank could be another candidate.

You won’t know properly until you take it all apart.

Thanks all.

I was looking for a base line cost for budgeting, assuming everything else is ok (unlikely I know but want to start somewhere). Plus any 'must do' items while the body is off - like A-frame ball joint and brake/fuel lines etc. Bulkhead should be ok as it was replaced a few years ago and all other items on JST's list can be tackled without taking the body off.

cheers

£3k for a basic change onto a new galv chassis. However, probably worth changing joints and bushes at the same time. Depends upon your budget and what you want to achieve.
