There's a company in Japan offering body/styling kits for the new Jimmy.

How about this one ?

^^^ They just look like someone has photoshopped defender or G bumpers/light units onto a Jimny.

I'm trying to pursuade my wife that if anything goes wrong with her BMW X1 that a Suzuki Jimny would be an obvious replacement.
She's not buying it so far... Big Cry

That’s great, looks the part👍 Captain Nick Medhurst would ask:
"What is the first rule when overlanding?"

I would Reply:

Basic non pretty and functional design like the old Defender, and no doubt the closest we will get, it will also be fairly cheap apparently. Still too small to be practical though, even in comparison to a 90. Obviously it depends on what you want/need though. Probably an ideal greenlane vehicle due to its light weight and tiny dimensions. So different from all the tedious bloated suvs on the market.

I like it Thumbs Up

It is a shame the safety test results are so dire.

They really aren’t though. The NCAP scoring is a set of moving goal posts. A three star car now may have been 5 stars plus cars a few years ago, plus they can be downmarked for not having certain active safety systems. It might not be best in class, but it isn’t a death trap.

Bear in mind we all drive Defenders too, which really are poor. This thing would be a quantum leap safer. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Crash safety /ncap ratings will always be a compromise in something like this, ladder chassis/compact/very square and functional, you can't have it both ways, unless you want a Discovery 3/4 or similar, the closest thing to a defender but much bigger, and they are not made anymore anyway!

Test drove one today and in general I was disappointed in it, I definitely needs a 6th gear as it's horrendous over 60 mph loads of wind noise and it's echos in the back. The engine is poor doesn't have anything low down and is very easy to stall and only really get going around 3500 revs. The steering was fine and the body roll was worse than a defender. Space wise it's good inside for what really is a wee car but comfortable enough for two adults and kids in the back.

My conclusion was if I didn't own a defender I would consider one of these on a PCP as a company car but if I had £16k spare cash I would always buy a defender.

This car is so like a defender in every aspect it's frightening, it's draw backs and benefits are almost identical.
