Scotland 2004 Defender 90 Td5 SW Yellow
XZL’s and snow.
I have removed my standard LR rims with Latitudes fitted to give the wheels a wee paint and tidy up. I have a good set of XZL’s on LR rims which I have fitted just now. As I have had no problems in the last few years tackling the snow in our part of Scotland on the Latitudes would I be better refitting them before winter comes or sticking with my XZL tread? Just wondering what the chunkier tread would be like in winter conditions if I decide to leave them on.

I drove XZL throughout the last snowy winter we had down south, 2013 I think it was. Had absolutely no problems in the snow. Admittedly I didn’t use any fast roads, but steep hills were no bother at all, nor were deep drifts. XZL seem to hold a lot of snow in the tread, and nothing sticks to snow better than snow, as the snow-sock idea demonstrates.

I switch from my regular 255/85 BFG KM2s to 7.50 XZL when snow is forecast. Much better snow performance, plus they are that little bit smaller thereby allowing tyre chains to be fitted without destroying the bodywork.

I actually rate the XZL very highly, it is an extremely good traditional tyre.
