DAB and heated windshield
I have just installed a DAB radio and the reception is very iffy... The installer when noticed the heated screen said that it may interfere with the DAB... Any advice?
The radio is a Pioneer MVH-X580DAB.

Best

I also have a DAB reception issue.

I installed the glass mount in the safari window thinking there would be an issue with the heated screen but it is no better. Some people report goos success with a simple splitter that uses the original wing mounted antenna. Stu...

Installed my antenna sticker thing in the alpine(?) window above 2nd row door on the right side. Reason I did it, was because it seemed to be the recommended place because of the heated windows.

Other possibility is antenna splitter on original antenna to receive dab signal from it.
(edit: just something I came across, not done myself)

the antenna need to be earthed well and not to close to any edge when fitted.ive got a kenwood one on my td5 and that has a heated screen.

its fine when its off but does interfere with reception when turned on.

i would try another aerial to see if it imprives it

I have used a splitter for my DAB (pioneer 8700 ) and its fine - we live in cornwall so dont have good coverage, but the split system seems to work very well.
Cheap and easy to do as well .. Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Thank you all for the advice... I will have to go back to the installer at Halford and ask him about the splitter as I have no clue about how to do it.

Regards

Alex

Hi Wyvern,

Did you install the splitter with the orignal manually retractable antenna? Did you connect the splitter active?

Regards
Mario

DAB in this country is rubbish (as of today).

In my town in Surrey it doesnt work reliably in any of my modern cars.

This is why I went for an Android/Apple head unit so I can just use data for radio etc, which is far more reliable.

I have a Kenwood DAB Radio in my 2010 110 SW, it is connected to the supplied windscreen stick on aerial which I have on the drivers side, the windscreen is heated. I find absolutely no problems with the installation and reception. I do have some experience with radio as a long term Amateur Radio Operator and have no doubt that a properly designed and fitted external aerial would give better reception and fewer drop outs.
I’m surprised that edo thinks that DAB is rubbish, I’ve been travelling up and down to Scotland from Cornwall over the last several years, when I first fitted my Kenwood I found that The DAB failed across Exmoor, North of Exeter for about 20 miles and later into the Scottish Borders North of Carlisle. On my last trip the only time I lost DAB or it’s auto switch to FM when the DAB signal dropped out was over Exmoor on the A30, so I am well pleased! 2010 Defender 110 Station Wagon, Santorini Black.

I’m not sure where exactly you’d fit it, but it could be worth looking into getting a ferrite core.

Those stick on aerials are rubbish, get a proper external one, DAB broadcasts aren't as good as FM, yet installers are putting in smaller stick on aerials as they're easier, no wonder reception is iffy...
