BLUEBOX oil filters
This was discussed on another forum, but thought I post here as well. A chap with a TD5 swapped his oil filter with a BLUEBOX one. He happened to have an oil pressure gauge fitted, and noticed his pre oil change 50 psi had dropped to 25 psi. So he limped around for a day whilst he thought , then he swapped back his old filter, bingo 50 psi. So he ordered a new quality filter and fitted it... 50 psi! He cut open the BLUEBOX one and the old quality one. The oil feed hole in the end, ( opp end to screw fitting) where the oil passes thro on the quality filter was about the size of a 1 p piece, the BLUEBOX one was barely 3/16"!! . I did an oil change a couple of days ago, and fitted my last filter, a Bluebox one, (300 tdi) and noticed the oil light stayed on for about 3 seconds on start up. It did this a few times, and on every initial startup. So I ordered and fitted a Mahle filter and bingo! No more light. I looked inside before fitting, and the Mahle .... 1 p hole , BLUEBOX Tiny hole. BEWARE!!

I wish I could say that I was surprised, but I am not.

After a few bad experiences (with on one occasion an expensive consequence), I now avoid that particular make like the plague.

For the amount they cost, I do oil and filter(s) on my td5 every 10k, and will only ever buy Mann/mahle

If I'm buying something online I always ask them what make the spares are. If it's blue box it's "I'll get back to you" How do they survive as a business is beyond me. 😬

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten Whistle

Used to have a filter rep who’d have two filters cut open and the inside pulled out the cheap one filter element was 1/3 of the length of the “premium” brand
