LRA, looks like a great trip. How are you finding those rear-window vents? Do they work well? Monsieur Le Grenadier

The window vents are ok. They definitely allow the inside to feel a bit fresher without any HVAC turned on. They're a bit noisy at motorway speeds but as I'm on my own, I've solved that by turning the radio up.

Oh, I should also add, they do make looking over your shoulder at junctions and the like a bit of a pain. Darren

Just a relatively local run out today, to the Horseshoe Pass:

This was a bit of trip down memory lane too, as this used to be a favourite Sunday drive for my family when I was a child.

I took this picture just for the sake of the sign but then realised that the sheep in the foreground had a broken rear leg – probably a car strike. I then spent an hour driving some of the narrow lanes at the bottom of the pass trying to find somebody to tell. I eventually found a farmhouse and a young lad that seemed to recognise the coloured marking that I described to him, so hopefully word will get to the owner.

This is my last full day in Wales as tomorrow I move camp to a place close to the GDSF. I’ve got to make a stop in Avonmouth on the way south, so will be using the A roads down through Shrewsbury and Hereford to take me to the old Severn Crossing. Darren

Not at all jealous LRA. Mr. Green

Looks like you've worked out a good itinerary for your trip. Has it extended to trialling local hostelries in the evenings also, or just quiet evenings in the Oztent?

Looking forward to seeing your next lot of pictures, especially those from the GDSF. Dont forget to show off your OZ tent in action Thumbs Up 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone

It was quite windy in the field I was camped in, so I used the windbreak to provide a bit of additional shelter.

In the background of the picture is Carrog station on the Llangollen railway and the sounds of steam trains were a very pleasant bonus.

On Thursday, I moved camp to be near to the Great Dorset Steam Fair. No pictures from that day as all I did was drive from one to the other. At my next camp site, the wind was even worse and I ended up with the 110 parked across the front to give the tent a bit of extra protection. Darren

I spent the final full day of this little jaunt at the Great Dorset Steam Fair, which is a fantastic event. As you would expect, there are lots of steam engines – 500 this year to celebrate the 50th anniversary. I took well over a hundred photos but here are just a selection to give a flavour of the thing:

There were also lots of Land Rovers on display of various ages:

Some younger than expected – this 101 was part of a batch of four built in 1984, as the army had decommissioned its’ others. The front panel is hand built and joined in the middle, as original single piece panels were no longer available:

Then there was more exotic machinery like this Austin Gypsy fire engine:

An AEC Matador:

And more Scammells than you could shake a stick at:

Preserving an historic commercial vehicle is a big undertaking, but the burden is lessened somewhat if you can give it a new purpose Laughing :

I’ve always had a thing for interesting military vehicles, of which there were plenty:

There were three of the Scorpion’s hooning around an arena for ten minutes, which was fun to watch.

There was also some vintage plant in action:

And by way of a contrast, what’s not to like about a Reliant milk float?

The above is really just a taste, though. There were stationary engines, steam cars, bulldozers, tractors, mechanical horses, buses, lorries, motorbikes and all manner of other mechanical stuff from over the last 100 years.

There is also what must be the most eclectic auto jumble in the world. Amongst the farm implements, tools and lorry parts though, the stand out item was a trailer full of plastic gorillas Shocked Laughing

And that's all, folks. Thanks for watching Very Happy Darren

Great photos of what seems to have been a great (bloke’s) road trip. Only thing missing was a photo of a nice pub, pint of ale and a sausage sandwich or pie. Perhaps that’s your excuse for doing it all again next year, I’m sure SWMBO will understand the importance Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier
