Daft as it sounds they may have been after the locking covers, which have a habit of falling off and getting lost. I have had covers stolen in the past.
Whatever they were after, I am glad that they didn't get more or cause you more damage or loss. |

Might be best to check wheel nut torque just in case they started undoing any. Ray

I had the lock nut covers stolen in broad daylight at the House of Bruar in Scotland. Why would you do that? they're only a quid to buy

I went to the House of Bruar a few years ago very posh a lot of Land Rovers /Range Rovers in the car park last place you would think about small items being stolen.

Are the locking wheel nuts 'identifiable' by a code or type - I'd consider putting a new / different set on in case they come back with the correct socket.....

It's much more likely that a wheel thief would be equipped with a set of universal locking wheel nut removal sockets, such as can be bought for a few quid from Halfords, Machine Mart, and most similar outlets. Sadly LR locking nuts offer little deterrent to a determined thief.

I reckon they were checking whether the wheels were genuinely locked or not. If not, I would probably see it sitting on bricks. As it happens, I have since found out that there have been a spate of stolen wheels locally on multiple vehicle types. Adjustments: Startech Steering Wheel | MUD Interior LED lights | Wipac crystal headlights with osram nightbreaker bulbs | Alpine CDE195BT
To do list: Outside rear facing LED lighting | subwoofer and speakers |
