I have 3 ageless plates, look at all the manufacturers in the press videos etc, they are all ageless..
I think plates with illegal spacing look naff, to try make a name.. Also if your name is 'Kev' (or similar) and your plate is the same, that's naff, though I bet they have a gold ring with their name on too ![]() If people hate them, I'm fine with that. |

I have one simply to save the hassle of swapping plates on trailers every time vehicle is swapped.
I have also bought plates related to car 50 JPN and 90 HTG |

Yep, P40 HUE on the Heritage. The kids bought it for me for Father’s Day.

My car came with a 6 digit plate so it looks like a private one but I don't think it is.

It's not over complicated, however do get the plates made up from a reputable location. In my case I went for dealer plates, something I wouldn't always do but looks perfect and are 100% legal. Call me fussy but not that I plan to sell but buyers do look for things like number plate manufacturer even. Then there are minor details such as BS mark and manufacturers postcode etc which are requirements. It's hardly ever an issue though, be messing with number plate spacing etc will get anyone in hot water and the WILL remove the right to the use of the plate. You permanently rent the plate, it's not owned as such and if you don't have a vehicle you put it on retention. It's not that costly though to keep on retention anyway. WeWillWin🇬🇧🇺🇸 ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I have a private plate reason ageless and the other because it spells quite clearly a word it would be easier to spot if vehicle nicked, (yes I know thieves would probably change the plate) but unless they come prepared with a set then the plate would stand out on the way to where they were taking it. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I've got an Irish plate that I was given by somebody on here. What it says doesn't have any significance but it does hide the age, which is particularly effective on Defenders. Darren

We're lucky in some respects to have the rear plate the size it is and it's orientation as the spacing works well in some cases on mine at least. (And of course fully legal.) In many respects I wish I had the square plate on my trailer now rather than standard long. I shan't be that bothered about that though! ![]() ⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

Mine came with a previous land rover, a 110, a single letter and single digit which has no relevance to my name but I have had it on a disco 2 a disco 3 and now on my 90. I was asked if it as for sale when I first got and asked the person to make me a silly offer he replied with an offer of £200, I said that was a stupid offer so I still have it, that was 16-17 years ago nobody is perfect but being Scottish is a start

Maybe the question should be "on your Defender?"
If so, none. However my late RRC inherited a personal plate I'd had on previous Range Rover classics for years. The irony is that an N plate RRC probably has more "cachet" than my private plate, as there are plenty of the latter on the road but not many N plate RRC's. Maybe my social standing will go up if I ditch the private plate and revert to its original reg? ![]() |

Regarding ageless plates. It strikes me that a person must be extremely insecure to fork out a load of dough because they worry about other folks knowing the true age of a motor.
Not that there is anything wrong with being insecure. However advertising that fact to the whole world with an "ageless plate" does seem somewhat counterproductive. |

I have a more "liberal" attitude towards socially insecure people.
If it makes them feel better....... |

I've got four with my initials and single number (from 3 onwards, 1 and 2 had long gone).
I guess that makes me four times as insecure as most people, nothing to do with the age of the cars (they're all new enough to make reflective plates obligatory), I'm just arrogant. But should I hit the "Yes" button four times? Funnily enough, it's the Defender that's got a crappy number (still with my initials though, in case I forget who I am). Each to his own, I find JAG, TVR etc. numbers a bit naff, and I DON'T have one on my MOG. Peter Last edited by Birdy on 7th Aug 2018 4:01pm. Edited 1 time in total |
