Defender dash cam
What is the best way of hiding the cable across the top of the windscreen?

No room behind headlining.

Is it possible to glue the cable to the windscreen rubber? If so what glue is recommended?

Thanks

Brendan

I tucked mine between the headlining and windscreen rubber so it isn't actually behind the headlining but between it and the rubber Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

I've just fitted a usb socket fitted in a pod inbetween the internal mirror and the interior light. It is a little bulky but works well, I took a power feed from an ignition fed feed, up the passenger A post and earthed through the interior light earth. I used the short patch lead supplied with the camera, put the ferrite jobby on it and the job's a good one.
If I want to transfer the camera to another motor I can just pull the cable out and dig the cigarette lighter plug lead and do it.

I did the same positioned the dash cam behind the rearview mirror, ran the cable between the headling and windscreen rubber then down the plastic windscreen finisher trim then behind the dash with the connector coming out at the side of the heater control panel where the cig lighter is. On the Puma, it is a bit of a fiddle having to remove a few dash parts. But on TDi's and TD5 it's a doddle. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I am struggling to get the cable up behind headlining as it feels solid when using a trim tool.

A blob of clear or black silicone onto the rubber??

Brendan,

Assuming you dont have a roof console if you loosen the sun visor screws and remove the three screws holding the rear view mirror plate in place, it will be a bit easier to tuck the cable between the headliner and rubber.

I fitted a mud stuff roof console and fitted a USB power socket into it just above the rear view mirror - job done.

Indeed, there’s room enough for the cable behind the headlining, but you have to take of the sunvisors and rear view mirror clamp to pull the headlining a bit down. I even fitted a 12 to 5 V converter with usb socket behind the headlining to power the dashcam. The converter (small sized like a box of matches) is fed from the ignition live, this cable runs behind the a-post trim to behind the headlining. Cheers, Vincent

Mine runs above the headlining, there is plenty of space, it's just not easy to get to. I have a Mud console and the cables exit through the hole where the cab light used to be.

If it’s any help I recall that I used one of those flexible electrical wire feeder rods, first removing both of the fir trees above the driver’s door, and then feeding the rod and wire from that location and a hook type tool that I squeezed under the headlining behind the rearview mirror to fish out the end of the rod with the wire attached. In fact, the feeder wire rods that I bought some time ago from Aldi have been used quite a few times on my Defenders to route wires. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I ran mine up the windscreen on the passenger side from the new glove box (where I have fitted a USB point) and then under the sun visors held in place with some large elastic band under the little document holder ... works well and tidy with out disturbing the linings Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

For me it was an arse to get it pull the headlining down a bit and hide it under there. I'm good with the spanners but mine refused to bend enough to allow access.

SO - I pulled the windscreen rubber and tucked it between that and the glass. You wouldn't know its there and worked a treat.... going along to the passenger side, down through and behind the plastic a piller cover, and into the back of the stereo for power (positive to radio live / ignition live to radio amplifier remote {blue cable} end earth to radio earth)

I thought about this and decided not to bother. Bought a Garmin satnav with built in dashcam.
