Serves the driver right then. Rules are rules and whether we like it or not have to be obeyed. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I don't think there are any byways on Dartmoor.

Good. Shame they didn't give him a bigger fine.

It's those types that give the rest of us a bad name.

No vehiclular rights of way in national parks since the NERC act.
No different to driving on private land without permission.

Should be fined!

That being said, I don't agree that Byways should have been closed though.....

He deserves to be severely fined for driving where he shouldn't.

The NERC act didn't have any special considerations for byways in National Parks, if I remember correctly.
There are still legal rights of way if you know which ones weren't downgraded.
The NERC act was the worst piece of government legislation I can think of. It wiped out access without any consideration of the route being sustainable or not.
Sadly history now, no going back to how it was. Sad

Indeed, a lot of the lanes are now impassable for everybody.
Win win for the powers that be, less to pay out for by local authority. Rolling Eyes

We have the privilege to drive on the moors as part of the D&C 4x4 response team during the 10 tors event and when needed to support other agencies, and can have access to the military roads and areas to support the event.

The moors are wonderful to behold and can understand the need to keep them in good order, however the majority of damage that is caused by vehicles takes many years to recover. Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

anyone who wants to use green lanes should join GLASS and stick to the rules and lanes that are legal, off route driving will just result in more lanes closing and spoiling it for the rest of us DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

I'm all for people being punished for doing this sort of thing.

We all make mistakes (or at least I do) but there's a difference between a genuine mistake when you've tried to follow the rules and deliberately not noticing the signs.

There are some lanes near me that used to be drivable but now aren't that are either BOAT with a little bit of footpath in the middle, or footpath with an island of BOAT in the middle. The former you can't legally get through the whole track, the latter you'd have to helicopter your car in to the middle. All because different councils had different opinions on what was what.

I don't think anyone could mistakenly drive over the moors without knowing exactly what they are doing.
There are lots ofbkanket bogs also, and the likelyhood of getting stuck is high, as is a lot of recovery damage likely also.
Which as mentioned can take years to recover, it's also not sensible to do any lanes except for minor short ones in my opinion on your own without another vehicle.

Obviously didn't want to pay for a pay and play daynor seek any rivals persinssion.

Quite a few disco 1 & 2 drivers are much the same, I'm pretty sure they don't know any difference between a lane being a lane.
So if it was wide enough they'd drive down a footpath.

Round here some have been pulling out Byway bollards concreted in because the width is too narrow. (Listed width on sign next to it.)
Oh and pinching the Byway sign lost leaving just the sign behind.

Words fail me, really does. Rolling Eyes
