The three wipers fitted as standard to the Morgan Plus 8 are absolutely useless in anything heavier than light drizzle. The photo proves the point I think. (I must point out that this is NOT my Plus

It should be easy enough. Add a third wheelbox. Cut the guide tube for the drive rack at the appropriate places and flare the ends of the tube to suit the wheelbox. To alter the sweep either obtain the correct drive wheel or drill and bush the existing one to suit (the sweep is altered by changing the throw of the crank).
This was a popular mod in Series days, along with a one piece screen, and isn't difficult in principle. |

It used to be a pretty standard thing on comp motors, though easy to do as there's no original bulkhead

Biggest problem will be finding the wheel boxes. Years ago scrapyards were full of minis, maxis. Jags, etc that use the same wheel box but have different sweep angles stamped on them - I did something similar with my buggy wipers parked along the header of the windscreen but the motor was down in the dash.

As Blackwolf said the sweep angle is determined by the crank in the wiper motor gearbox. The wheel boxes are all the same. They're literally just a spindle with a cog on the end of them. |

It's also determined by the lateral movement of the cable and the size of the gear in the wheel box, hence the degree marking on the wheel boxes.
With one motor you can have two different sweeps |

Quite right, but if you want all the arms to sweep the same the motor gearing is the easiest to change.

thanks for the feedback - my rig is a completely new mod- I wont be using the wheel box or the drive mechanism (OEM)
i am replacing the wheel box with 3 x sealed bearing / brass / 316 setup whilst using the 'traditional" STC987 so all the wiper blades and arms remain stock. wiper motor is a heavy duty MRV marine wiper which should match/exceed the stock LR wiper motor but not have the park problems over time. the setup will be a totally new rig- using bearings and connector arms. As stated i managed to do a motion study on solid-works and found the right linkage etc to give me just the right angle- so i can use 13" blades. |
