Mudflap loaction

1st off I'm certainly not after authenticity and rivet counting...

However I wanted to see what the mudflaps I painted ages ago would look like so partly fitted one last night. Posted on a Series facepalm site on tinterweb and a comment it should be a bit further back to protect x member.

I like the way it sits flush to the x member and too be honest the braket behing the flap seems to suggest this better as part of the mudflap plastic goves over the bracket so setting them back would not be as flush.

What do people think. I like it so will probably fit them like this

They would have been set further under the cross member originally, rather than flush with the rear face.

I'm struggling to remember - are the mounting brackets basically steel angle on the underside of the cross member? If so, it looks like you've got them handed the wrong way around. I can't find a decent picture to illustrate it but it's just about visible here:

Flush with back of cross member looks better and keeps flap further from exhaust and rear wheels. 1995 Defender 110 CSW
