Thanks for the additional detail, Steve. Unfortunately, I don't think my personal foibles would allow me to mount the batteries like that, plus I think the bottom of the Puma battery box is slightly different to yours. On a more technical note, how do you find the performance of those batteries? The spec. looks to be quite a lot smaller than the original one?
Thanks to everybody else that's contributed, too. The GMB Mount offering looks promising, albeit at a cost 
Miker, I can't see your picture at work, unfortunately. I'd definitely want to see them clamped down, though. I think I need to do some measuring and perusing of battery specs... Anyone know if this fits a TDCi seatbox? It looks ideal for something I have in mind if it does, but the description mentions only LT77 and R380 gearboxes. |

Blackwolf. I think it should fit fine. TDCI still used the LT230 which is in the same location as an R380 vehicle i believe as the props are the same length. It is only the transfer box which is in the way of this tray. I have another for my V8 project for mounting the engine ECU and relays.
I am pretty certain the battery box is the same profile on the puma. If you want to buy or fabricate a battery tray so the batteries dont sit at an angle (the angle is not extreme on mineanyway) you will find you will need to go with Ultima or Odsessy batteries as normal lead acid ones will be too tall to get the lid on the seatbox. Hence why i didnt use one as i had no interest in spending that much on batteries, especially when they have such mixed reviews! The standard battery on a defender is i believe an 069 which will have 70=85ish Ah and Maybe 600-700 Cold Cranking Amps. Those CXV-X1000 are 85Ah and 1000CCA do definitely not smaller than the standard ones. I find them absolutely fine and had them in the shed for 2yrs before i got around to using them! Good to know they're ok. I might have been looking at the wrong one as the one I found on Tayna said it was only 585CCA, which is what prompted me to ask.

Ah yes, that is interesting! That is the same battery as mine but mine definitely say 1000CCA

I know I have one Enduroline 100Ah in, and I think the second one might be the same type. Both of them are “installed” in my 2007 Puma 90, and all I did was stick some stiff foam in the box together with the batteries - they’re not going anywhere since there’s hardly any wiggle room. I did not clamp them down or anything - doesn’t make me happy as such, but there’s really no need...
The two batteries are wired with a Merlin SmartBank/Gauge system. Let me know if you’d like more details or photos - I can look into it tomorrow, it’s been almost four years since I installed it. |

^^^ I hope you've made sure that in the event of a rollover the battery terminals can't short out on the seatbox lid. The consequences need no elaboration but would not be good.

Hm... still too lazy to go outside and look, but I just remembered what I did: I repurposed that creatively shaped piece of carpet that is meant to be on top of the seatbox lid, as insulation between the batteries and the lid.
