Made a start on my new passenger door this week. Stripped down, masked, rubbed down and primed:

Unfortunately, I think the low temperatures over the weekend will stop me from doing the top coats. I doubt I'd get away with putting it in the dining room Rolling with laughter Darren

Rear Window Trims
Work on the door has progressed up to a point - the painting is finally complete - but has now stalled whilst I wait for a missing part Rolling Eyes

Instead, for the last couple of days, I've been making some trims for the around the side windows in the hardtop. I did consider buying some trims but I haven't been able to find any at a sensible price, so came up with this cunning plan instead:

Firstly, after some careful measuring, I made some panels out of 6mm hardboard. Because the top and bottom edges are so thin, I reinforced them with strips of aluminium, glued in place with Evostick:

With those as templates, I marked and cut out some grey vinyl cloth, which is a perfect match for the vinyl of the rear seats:

Using spray glue, the vinyl cloth was fixed to the hardboard panels:

With the vinyl in place, the panels are a snug fit around the windows, but to secure them in place and tidy up the edges, I made some edging trim from 50mm x 50mm grey plastic angle. This was trimmed and notched using tin snips and then secured in place with sticky back Velcro:

Whilst they're not as swish as proper moulded trims, for a fraction of the cost I'm pretty pleased with the result.

Over the next few days I hope to finish the passenger door and remove a few items that will be moved to my new 110. Then it'll going up for sale! Darren

Hee, hee, thanks. I'll be sad to see it go too - apart form anything else I've spent a fortune on it! Still, it's time to move on and my new 110 as a daily driver was always my aim. Darren

Finally, finally, got my new passenger door installed today:

The old one came off reasonably easily and the new one was mounted with new hinges and all stainless hardware.

I also took the opportunity to remove the seal from the door cill (which was shot) and cut off the fixings to provide a flush surface:

The brown stain is the remnants of some sort of sealant or glue that was on the back of the old seal. If I was keeping it, I was planning to replace the cill rails with new later ones but now I'll just include them in with the sale.

Doing this allowed me to fit the proper bottom seals to the new doors (I did the drivers side whilst I was at it):

After a bit of fettling of the door catch, the door closes and seals really nicely. Shame I'm not going to see the benefit Laughing

The eagle eyed may notice that one or two bits and pieces have been removed for re-use on my 110. I've just got a handful of minor jobs to complete and I hope to have it ready to advertise towards the end of the week. Darren

Over the last few days I've been doing some final bits and pieces in preparation for sale.

Edging trim to the carpet where it folds over the top of the bulkhead:

Replaced a corroded pocket on the underside of the battery box:

Cleaned and painted the rear cross member:

I've also re-painted the front bumper and touched up the paintwork generally, which has improved the look of it, no end. No pictures of that yet, though. I'll refit the bumper in the morning and then get some nice 'advert' shots. Darren

So this is it - the end of the road with this one. This morning, I re-fitted the newly painted front bumper and its' original plates, and then took it out for some photos in the sunshine:

The final task will be to write the 'for sale' advert. Darren

If it was me, I'd be swapping the bumper for a standard one (I have the one I bought from you a year or so back if you would consider part exchanging the one you replaced it with... I'm up your way on Wednesday) and also remove the station wagon badge from the back. Kicking myself for not removing things like that from my old 90 before selling it!

Thanks for the offer but I've umm'ed and ah'ed about removing those things and decided against it on the basis of time versus effort. I've already salvaged quite a bit for sale or use elsewhere but I think those set the vehicle off nicely. Darren

Ha, ha, don't think so. There's plenty of tinkering to do on my new one. Just less fixing the ravages of time, first. Darren
