Well my Saga continues. Poor quality painting (can see white prima through) plus the issues with some work not carried out and others done using incorrect parts to name some of the issues. I have been speaking to Land Rover customer relations and pointed out I am not happy with using listers again. However it appears that listers have been paid for the work and therefore no other dealer will touch it as they would have to be paid by listers!

Land rovers stance appears I have to use listers to rectify issues but don’t trust them not to make it worse equally I don’t want to be without it for another couple of months. This could take me to 20% of my ownership being in with listers.

Left it with Land Rover to speak to listers and come up with a solution while I take advice!

Do you know where the paint work was done? They tend to use Reynolds at Rushock, so it might be worth having a visit to them to look at the substandard work. They are supposed to accredited by every industry body under the sun so there maybe a recourse there. Just a thought.

It was Reynolds second time I have had poor paint work done by them.

They are meant to be accredited to do Bentley I believe from what I have seen can’t see how. Once is poor twice is a problem

In the interests of balance, things appear to be improving at Listers Droitwich. Having said I wouldn’t go there again, laziness won and in went the Heritage for some warranty work. As many of you know, the only way to get a vaguely sensible timeline is to ensure any work has been approved by JLR before you take the vehicle in for the work. Even then it was 4 days late but they sorted out some bubbling under the windscreen, replaced all the wheels and steps, and fixed two leaking swivel housings. They even made phone calls without being kicked first. It wasn’t a stellar performance but a step in the right direction and many times better than the last experience.

Cheers,

Replaced the wheels? Are alloys covered? Are side steps? (both are corroding on mine)

I’m still undecided as to whether to approach JLR or just ask my local body shop for a quote (bubbling on windscreen bulkhead/bracket) given the hassle it seems to be getting warranty work done. Like others, our local dealer sub-contracts.

My 2 year warranty expires next month. I’m probably going to continue it for the £650 per annum I’ve been quoted.

They are steel wolf wheels and I’d seen a few spots of rust coming through. Initially they said ‘wear and tear’ but then had a change of heart!

Glad yours went ok. Think I must be doomed with them. I have been told that Solihull is ok however not tried.

To update on mine I have now referred my case to trading standards as can’t get a satisfactory timescale on mine and there response on the oil on the dash was just unacceptable. I am no longer in communication with listers as I am afraid what I may say (not sure it may help my case!) and communicating through JLR.

Will say my service from JLR not been great either. I believe they argued with trading standards officer when they called (think they thought it was someone I got to call up pretending) and they will not give me any assurances I will have my truck available for my holiday at the end of the month or a suitable vehicle I will be allowed to take abroad. I have said I would rather not use listers but will do as long as I don’t deal directly with them. Just want it sorted now but they are making me dig in as just getting excuses and arguments.

Think I am being fair as not after anything just it fixed without me being without the truck for another 8 weeks and it being damaged.

Sorry to hear that tale of woe. I really hope you get it resolved to your satisfaction.

Whilst I was in there tasting the coffee I was rattling with a chap who has a new RR sport. He’d had D3s and D4s and found them faultless. His experience with the RR hasn’t been good, numerous electronic niggles from dash blackout to restricted performance to false tyre pressure warnings. The service chap was saying that new software had been due for release in Jan, was released and then withdrawn after 48 hours in early Feb, was released again and then withdrawn after a few days later in Feb.....now coming in April. That tells you all you need to know about the complexity of their software engineering and their ability to execute. It also sounds like patch on patch when a rethink is required.

Thanks for the Defender 🙏

A twist in this tale. I picked up the Heritage when it was snowing, so couldn’t check the paint work. I could see the steps had been changed and was told the wheels had been too. This weekend I got her out to clean some crud off and the wheels looked remarkably familiar, the same rust spots as the old ones etc. Of course they hadn’t been changed. Listers were very embarrassed, Reynolds had invoiced them for the job but not done it. The wheels are now on order and will all be replaced.

It is an interesting insight into the lack of process / quality control that allows such a thing to happen. I’m just glad I noticed!!

Really sorry to see that I am not the only one. Glad they are sorting it but it really shouldn’t happen. I am afraid it’s the 2nd time for me so totally lost confidence in the dealer and begging to in jag Land Rover.

I am still waiting for Land Rover to sort mine. I have been told it’s authorised then that as listers did it they have to sort it and it’s not land rovers responsibility (hence trading standards) I am now not sure what is happenig but coming up to 12 months.

So 8 months on and finally I’ve had a set of 5 wheels prepped and painted properly (then marked and painted again). I got back from London tonight and went out to have a look and in the garage light they look ok. I am curious as to how they have been balanced, there is no visible weight on the inside or outside of any wheel, which seems to indicate they haven’t been balanced (Mrs H picked it up but didn’t report anything untoward).

Nothing is straightforward is it? Rolling Eyes

I have had the same problems over the eight years I have had my defender, bought it new from then Stratstone, the day I collected it, it had scores an door damage, it went into the body shop and came back with more scratches.
The dealership changes th Pentland. The services there was a bad. It took a local Garage to diagnose a turbo problem. Which was changeed under warranty, but approximately one year later that turbo failed, The service or lack of it certainly give a new meaning to the The Landrover Experuence. The quicker you take your landrover of any version to a private LR Garage the better.
LR is not much better, after seven year of ownership and extended warranty and only 70,000 on the clock LR did not send out the extended warranty renewal. Best thing LR have done. I now have my landrover looked after by my local LR specialist
Who are Ian Sim Ltd, Ladybank Fife.
